Knockboy Barn, a Passive House in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, completed in 2020, integrates sustainable design with a rural aesthetic. The timber-constructed house, with a treated floor area of 254 m², uses a highly insulated thermal envelope, including cellulose insulation and Kingspan systems.
The home is heated by a Hitachi heat pump, with mechanical ventilation by Zehnder. It achieves a low annual heating demand of 14 kWh/m², with a renewable primary energy demand of 25 kWh/m².
The design incorporates ecological features like a green sedum roof.
