Södra Climate Arena, Växjö, Sweden

Södra Climate Arena, the result of the partnership between Södra, the organisation of southern Swedish forest owners, and Ready Play Tennis AB, a tennis organisation run by former tennis stars, is meant to represent “the tennis centre of tomorrow”. This 3,600 m² certified Passive House building comprises a tennis hall with four tennis courts, a cafe, conference rooms, a gym, changing rooms and technical facilities.

The tennis centre is characterised by a wooden indoor and outdoor structure, framed by a linear and elegant facade, which appears perfectly harmonised with the natural surrounding environment. Monitoring activities shows a constant indoor temperature of 18°C both in winter and summer, ensuring comfortable conditions and demonstrating, as Professor Dr. Wolfgang Feist stated, that “the Passive House principle works, even in the cold climate of Sweden and even in a high sports hall”.
