Cairn Homes Sets a New Standard with Passive House Commitment

The Passive House Association of Ireland is proud to announce that Cairn Homes, Ireland’s leading homebuilder, has announced its commitment to constructing homes that meet the globally recognised Passive House standard. This initiative aligns with Cairn’s goal of creating sustainable, energy-efficient living spaces for modern homeowners. Passive House-certified homes are designed to significantly reduce energy consumption by up to 90%, offering exceptional thermal comfort, superior indoor air quality, and lower utility bills.

By incorporating cutting-edge insulation, airtight construction, and advanced ventilation systems, Cairn is setting a new benchmark for eco-friendly homes. The Passive House standard focuses on minimising energy loss through efficient building techniques that enhance thermal performance. These homes maintain a stable indoor climate, reducing the need for heating and cooling systems and resulting in long-term energy savings for homeowners.

Cairn Homes is integrating these principles across several new developments, including their large-scale Citywest project, which will be Ireland’s largest Passive House-certified residential development. With over 850 homes in the works, this project marks a significant step toward delivering sustainable housing that meets Ireland’s climate action goals.

“A passive home is a home that’s constructed in a slightly different way to the way that we have been doing,” said Stephen O’Shea, Cairn Homes’ head of sustainable construction . “As a result it performs more efficiently, it’s healthier for the residents and it saves them money in the long-term.”

This move by Cairn Homes is part of a broader strategy to promote future-proof homes that meet the evolving needs of homeowners while contributing to a more sustainable housing sector in Ireland.

Passive House-certified homes are built with the environment in mind, incorporating renewable energy solutions and cutting-edge construction techniques.
